Also featuring silver-plated keys and mechanism, and a conical bore design for optimal resonance. The Gemeinhardt 4W has been the choice for many musicians for decades. All Gemeinhardt 4W piccolos are made by Gemeinhardt in Elkhart, Indiana.
While I was there, I tried some wooden piccolos and one of them was a 4w. I was insanely impressed because I got the low d out all the way to a high c And the infamous b natural. The high register was very responsive and the tone was warm but had more color to it. This piccolo produced a bright tonal color all the way to a haunting dark color an alto flute is known for ( this is my opinion).the mechanism was sturdy and was not at all flimsy. Classic wood piccolo with unbelievable warm sounds (with a piccolo) yep Did I mention that I am still in love with it I really believe that Gemeinhardt did their homework on this one--but they are always outstanding in their workmanship. Im an original Bundy owner--so I know what Im talking about). Now if only I could afford a Gemeinhardt 3SB flute Someday this dream will come true too. Ready Easy to play. Highly recommended by teachers and musicians for years. I believe this piccolo is easy to play- our daughter did well with it and I was able to easily play the entire range(and I havent played a piccolo since 1974) Serial 2181. This Zentner piccolo was purchased new by our daughters flutepiccolo teacher and played in semi-pro orchestras in the Houston area. Our daughter purchased it from her teacher and played it in her high school concert band, including solos. It has never been played outdoors and was always well taken care of. The pads have been replaced, along with regular adjustments and other maintenance. It was recently checked by a certified instrument repair technician who stated that there are no cracks in the wood and that the pads are still in good condition. Condition issues that affect value are 1) The silver plating is coming off of the keys. This does not affect sound or ease of play, but can be felt by fingertips- feels rough. See pictures. It could be re-silvered. One of the little cushions in the hard case has come loose and the sawdust leaked out. It could be repaired with some foam inserted into the velvet pocket and re-glued. This piccolo comes in a hard case that has the above condition issue. Also included is a Jean Cavallaro fleece-lined case cover- like new condition, purple. Black wooden piccolo(half flute) with plastic velvet lined storage case. The keys also appear to be silverplated as they have a heavy patina to them. There are visible pieces of corkwood to the interior side of the windhole This measures apx. Long. The sn looks like it reads as: 921 T he entire trill key appears to be missing. In addition. Someone has informed me(a possible buyer) that he contacted Haynes directly about this year and type of piccolo, they said its a low pitch type, they couldnt be specific, but I wanted to share this with anyone who is interested in using it for creating music. Its a rare piccolo, I doubt another will be available for awhile, and I researched these early types. Theyre valuable, once repaired to working order, and I can refer any buyer to a reputable NYC instrument company that has the expertise to bring this piccolo back to its playing form.
